Abstract

For many years humans have developed technologies for exploring space through space travel subjecting astronauts to the possible effects that these missions can cause. Important changes occur in the human body, leading to some complications, such as: changes in the immune system; in the nervous system; in the gastrointestinal tract; osteoporosis; and pain processes. Projects seek to provide the best experience for the human species outside the terrestrial environment for the limitations encountered during and/or after a space mission. This project seeks to bring the focus to the potential use of medicinal Cannabis, presenting it as a highly effective alternative to these issues. The Cannabis sativa L grows in a controlled environment, with an average cultivation cycle of three months, and can be cultivated during long-term space travel. Its use in pain management; in the regulation of osteolytic activity, fighting osteoporosis; on the immune system modulation, on the intestinal microbiome; and in neuroprotection, puts it in evidence for future advances in aerospace phytopharmacology. Restrictions on research with the plant must be relaxed in order to allow the advancement and use of this ancient medicine in a promising field, once again accompanying the human being in his explorations, as in the great navigations of the 15th century. Therefore, the promotion of research with Cannabis should be encouraged to provide astronauts a healthier and safer journey with greater potential for success.
