ABSTRACT: Introduction: The hallucinogenic and relaxing effects of the Cannabis sativa plant have drawn attention to the possibilities of therapeutic application for centuries. Currently, in the national territory, the National Health Surveillance Agency regulates the plant for medicinal purposes making the compound viable as an emerging alternative in treating various clinical conditions, including Orofacial Pain. Methodology: A literature review was carried out from 2018 to 2023, in the databases PUBMED/MEDLINE, Periódico CAPES, Scielo, and Google Scholar, using the descriptors "Cannabis", "Pharmacology" and “Facial Pain". 42 scientific studies were identified, in which, through the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 23 were chosen to integrate the sampling of this research. Discussion: Therefore, as emerging perspectives, the contribution includes scientific data concerning the endocannabinoid system, pharmacological nuances, therapeutic efficacy, applicability in Dentistry, and the use of medicinal cannabis in the context of orofacial pain. Thus, a reduction in chronic Orofacial Pain associated with Temporomandibular Disorders was observed, in addition to the reduction of masticatory muscle activity, contributing to improving the patient's quality of life. Transdermal application has proven to be more efficient and minimize adverse reactions. Conclusion: Based on the literature review, it can be concluded that additional studies are required in this field. Cannabinoid therapy presents itself as a potential therapeutic alternative for addressing orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders.
