Abstract

The use of cannabis has aroused growing interest in the medical and dental community due to its potential health properties. In this review, we investigated current scientific literature to raise data regarding the possibilities of using cannabinoids in endodontics. An open research is carried out in scientific data bases - PubMed, LILACS and Scopus, with the articles recovered by searching for key words and also consulting fifty literature on sites such as Google Scholar and the repository of Teses and Dissertações da CAPES . These included studies that investigated the effects of cannabis and its derivatives in the endodontic context, independent of the methodology used. The results consistently demonstrate that cannabinoids have significant potential to be an allied medication in endodontics; The main research fronts found in the control of the tooth, in bone metabolism, in the protection of the dentine-pulpar complex and in the disinfection of the root canal system. Although the results seem promising, it is important to recognize the limitations of the two available studies, including the heterogeneity of the cannabis formulations used, in the absence of standardization in the administration protocols and the need for more research to elucidate the mechanisms of action and the long-term effects. cannabinoids in endodontics.
